8/9/2023 0 Comments Skyward sword switch reviews![]() ![]() And I’ve already seen loads of merch and stuff on Etsy that will help make this remaster become a bigger part of Zelda fandom.ĭespite that, I do think this kind of game is going out of style. Because of that, I think Skyward Sword will do pretty well on Switch. The Legend of Zelda has always been big, but it felt like Breath of the Wild just really hit the sweet spot for everyone, especially my generation. What’s your takeaway on Skyward Sword?Įveryone was rightfully obsessed with Breath of the Wild. It’s your generation that will soon be designing the games people play. You’re not just button mashing or waiting for an enemy to lower their shield, you’re using Link’s sword in what feels like a realistic way to attack.īut I’m representative of the old, outgoing generation of gamers. I’ve never played a game with fighting like this. ![]() Consciously choosing the direction you want to swing to maneuver it into precise strikes is awesome. I actually found the sword control super-duper satisfying. In fact, I was playing another game yesterday where I actually found myself trying to use Skyward Sword‘s toggle mechanic to move the camera around. I’ve got decades of muscle memory telling me that I should be able to control the camera with that thumbstick without needing to toggle camera movement on with a shoulder button. I found myself wishing Nintendo had taken the time to come up with a better gamepad interface for the remaster, one that doesn’t involve using a thumbstick to control the direction of Link’s swipes. At one point he says something like, “I’m going to kill you, but first I really need to vent.” That’s my kind of bad guy.Ĭoming back to it after all these years, my biggest problem is dealing with the controls. He has awesome makeup, and kind of an evil gay vibe. I really like one of the villains, Ghirahim. The rest of the characters and the world are just fine, though. Like, lines and shapes pasted on that just don’t belong. Some of them are just…well, put it this way: They look like someone really messed up using the Mii creator. I want some Skyward Sword merch featuring them both.īut some of the other human characters never grew on me. I really didn’t like the way Zelda looked at first - I thought her bangs were the worst - but now I actually really like the way she looks. I don’t play a lot of older games, so the graphics seem pretty dated, even in HD.īut once I got into it I came to appreciate the animation. I think for me it might just be that it’s an older game. Yeah, the look of some of the characters is really…I don’t know…jarring. ![]() You can’t really just run around and get up to stuff. You can still explore smaller open areas, and there are big goals to achieve, but there’s a specific way to accomplish each goal and an order you usually have to do things in. Does that make sense? Exploration is more linear. It’s just all done very differently here. You still have a sword, and can shoot stuff with a slingshot, use bombs, and glide. There are a lot of the same characters and kinds of creatures. Kid: It’s very different, but it’s definitely recognizably Zelda. Then we had a little conversation, the following transcription of which shall serve as Post Arcade’s review.ĭad: You love Breath of the Wild, but how has Skyward Sword struck you so far? Beyond sharing some characters and sound effects, does it feel like it’s the same sort of game? So the two of us gave Skyward Sword a whirl, she with fresh eyes full of wonder, and jaded old me, with a still-clear memory of having played it on the Wii. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. She’s pretty much Nintendo’s exact target audience for the remastered edition. She was far too young to remember Skyward Sword on Wii, but she adores Link’s most recent adventure, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and is itching for more. Not only is the Japanese game giant riding a wave of success with its current family of Switch consoles, which have sold more than 85 million units worldwide, but enough time has passed that an entirely new generation of gamers with no recollection of the original has come of age.
